What are the responsibilities and job description for the Entry Level Geotechnical Engineer position at Jacobs?
We have a great opportunity for an Entry-Level Geotechnical Engineer to join our Columbus, Ohio office and be part of the Geotechnics Group for the Midwest region. As an Entry-Level Geotechnical Engineer, you’ll have the opportunity to follow projects from concept through construction, working on current and upcoming design-bid-build and design-build projects in highways, rail, water, environmental, ports, and advanced facilities sectors.
By joining our practice you’ll be gathering information, conducting analyses, and assume responsibility for various aspects of the design of shallow and deep foundations, earth retaining structures, and slope stabilization features. You will also be coordinating and generating geotechnical-based specifications and preparation of data, baseline, and interpretative reports.
Skills that are required to serve in this role include, but not necessarily limited to, knowledge and experience in the following areas:
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience with exploration methods, geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring, and laboratory testing of soil and rock
• Knowledge of the process to design shallow and deep foundations, earth retaining structures, embankment and cut slopes, and slope improvement
• Preparation of technical reports, design drawings, and specifications
• Proficient with Microstation and/or AutoCAD
• Familiarity with computer programs for geotechnical analyses (e.g., SLIDE, LPILE, APILE, Shaft, GRLWEAP)
• BS in Civil or Geological Engineering
• MS in Civil/Geological Engr with concentration in Geotechnical Engineering (preferred)
• 0 - 4 years of geotechnical engineering experience
• Ability and willingness to visit and safely navigate construction and project sites and comply with all applicable safety codes and requirements
