At Jacobs, we’re focused on advancing our clients’ environmental stewardship, energy infrastructure modernization, and sustainability initiatives. We’re seeking an Intermediate Level Environmental Planner based out of San Francisco, California, to support fast-paced energy infrastructure maintenance and replacement projects, thereby supporting our clients’ ability to adapt and thrive – both today and into tomorrow as the world changes and we face unprecedented challenges.
You will work both individually and within a team, serving as a key team member who leads and supports others, engages in regular client and team interaction, coordinates and collaborates with multiple client technical leads, and organizes and summarizes technical material for multiple projects simultaneously in support of projects across California. Your work will contribute to realizing safer infrastructure operations, healthier communities, and protection of our world’s natural resources. You'll be a dedicated resource to our San Francisco office. You’ll have the opportunity to grow your core skills in task coordination and leadership while leading planning and permitting strategy efforts in order to avoid and/or minimize environmental impacts for a variety of utility projects. Here's what you'll need
Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Urban, Regional or Environmental Planning, Environmental Science, Natural Resources or other related technical environmental discipline.
Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team to prepare environmental documentation for fast-paced utility projects.
Ability to foster relationships with large project teams, clients, client contractor staff, and third-party consultants.
Ability to work in the Bay Area or Sacramento area, with travel occasionally to the client office and project sites within the state for planning reviews.
Ideally, you’ll also have:
2-5 years of experience coordinating and leading tasks and deliverables with multiple technical leads and stakeholders.
Previous experience providing land planning and permitting support/coordination for linear utility projects in California.
Previous experience attending field meetings and an understanding of general Health and Safety protocols/requirements for engaging in field work.
A proven track record of exceeding client expectations regarding deliverable quality while keeping an eye on schedule and budget.
Ability to represent Jacobs during project meetings (in person field meets and conference calls) in order to provide status updates, track action items, and identify potential risks to project schedules.
Ability to read, understand and summarize technical documents on multiple subject areas .
Understanding of linear utility construction methods, and planning and permitting in California.
Experience supporting projects during CEQA/NEPA processes and resource agency permitting.
Ability to provide quality control of self-produced work products, including close attention to detail in order to ensure deliverables are prepared according to Jacobs’ and clients’ high standards.
Strong self-starter with ability to balance work on multiple projects simultaneously.
Excellent communication (written and verbal) and organizational skills.
Experience with GIS, kmz files (Google Earth), and informational databases.
Experience and poise handling public involvement, agency coordination, and communication with clients, stakeholders and professionals.
Ability to grow and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic program that often requires responses to client inquiries to be provided within 24 hours.

Employees in a modified full-time status will receive PTO based upon number of hours worked (allocated plans start ate 17 days per calendar year). The base salary range for this position is $80,200.00 to $100,000.00; though will be paid hourly based on hours worked. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
