What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Teacher position at Jacob's Ladder Educational Childcar?
1. Assist Lead Teacher in planning and implementing lesson plans using the provided GELDS and Pinnacle Curriculum that coincides with the provided daily schedule for any age group required.
2. Provide identifiable activity routines for the children and facilitate activity “transitions”.
3. Create daily open-ended small groups for children to encourage questioning, problem solving, language, creativity and concept forming in young children.
4. Maintain constant supervision of children in care, and attend to children in distress.
5. Supervise (with eyes and ears) all activities to ensure proper participation and safety.
6. Use appropriate positive discipline techniques with children, such as redirection.
7. Interact with the children in a positive and supportive manner using children’s correct names with a moderate tone of voice.
8. Establish a positive relationship with each child’s family and share information about the child’s day at the Center with the child’s parent(s).
9. Assure Universal Precautions are kept at all times, including washing hands upon entering the classroom, before and after diapering/toileting, before and after meals, and after contact with bodily fluids such as, but not limited to mucus.
10. Report to the Director or Administrator any signs of illness, injury, or abuse of children. Take appropriate action in any emergency situation.
11. Complete Hurts & Hugs reports (and a copy for the file) as soon as the child’s needs have been met and ensure the parent receives a copy. Log the incident for the Lead Teacher. Report all incidents to the Director or Administrator immediately.
12. Assist with the evacuation of children during fire drills, natural disasters, and any other emergencies, which may occur.
13. Recognize and respect appropriate parent/child confidentiality as noted in the Bright from the Start Rules and Regulations for Childcare Centers 591-1-1-.08 (n) Children's Records.
14. Maintain sanitary standards for self, children, and center.
15. Assist Lead Teacher in maintaining a well-organized, safe, and attractive classroom environment conducive to the optimal growth and development of the children.
16. Assist the Lead Teacher in providing orientation and training for new staff, substitutes and volunteers.
17. Interact with parents, staff, and visitors in a positive, friendly manner and assist them if needed.
18. Maintain accurate attendance and daily meal counts (breakfast, lunch, and snack).
19. Set an example for children by using appropriate language, hygiene, social skills, etc.
20. Provide parent/child with daily or weekly guaranteed communications and participate with the Lead, if needed, in Parent-Teacher conferences.
21. Observe each child daily to assess skills, interests and needs and use this information to facilitate learning and growth. Document daily observations in a Child Portfolio.
22. Help maintain the facility in a safe and satisfactory condition by completing daily health and safety checklists in the classrooms and playground.
23. Keep abreast of current knowledge in the field of Early Childhood Education.
24. Attend scheduled staff meetings, workshops, training classes, open houses and Center or parent events as requested.
25. If you are assigned to a diaper changing and/or toilet training room, then you are responsible for following the specific guidelines for diaper changing and disinfecting.
26. Perform other duties as assigned by Director or Administrator.
