What are the responsibilities and job description for the Security Park Ranger (Onsite/Part-Time) position at Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens?
Security Park Ranger (Part-Time) Are you a team player with some experience in the security, safety, and/or the ranger field? Our Security Park Ranger position safely secures day-to-day operations for Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens, spanning over 180 acres on the north side of Jacksonville. Security and safety are a top priority daily for our people, natural resources, and operational systems providing wellness to over 2,000 rare and exotic animals plus 1,000 varieties of plants. Our Zoo is open rain or shine, 363 days a year, to experience our lush gardens and wildlife. Your position will be responsible for professionally enforcing safety and security procedures. This is an onsite active position on your feet and can easily average ten thousand (10K ) plus steps on a shift. The role requires a calm demeanor in critical and unusual situations to exercise sound judgment to react appropriately. Concise and timely communication is crucial in all types of situations to lead, assist, train, report, investigate, and maintain compliance standards. You will have the willingness to learn a working knowledge of regulatory standards such as OSHA, FEMA, HAZMAT, and the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). On a typical day, you will patrol, prepare, set up, and facilitate parking, crowd control, first aid, and emergency services/evacuations. Independently you can multi-task with a business acumen in a fast-paced environment to efficiently complete our mission of "Connecting our community with wildlife and wild places."

Do you have…
- Six (6) months’ experience in the security/ranger or similar field?
- Ability to meet the physical requirements and remain on your feet throughout a 6 to 8-hour shift?
- A high school degree or equivalent?
- Ability to commit to a high level of integrity, professionalism, and honesty?
- Ability to remain calm and composed in stressful situations?
- Ability to maintain a valid driver’s license, over eighteen years (18) with a clear driving record?
- Availability to work outside regular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays?
- Reliable transportation to commute to the Northside of Jacksonville?
- Working knowledge of general first aid, CPR, and the use of AED equipment to become certified within 90 days of employment?
- Working knowledge of Microsoft office related software products and willingness to learn other computer software programs to complete job duties?
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to consistently remain on feet for prolonged periods of time.
- Manual dexterity for standing, reaching, flexibility, and body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling, stoop, bend, lift, kneel, crawl, climb, jump, dig and prolonged standing.
- Grasp, turn, and manipulate objects of varying size and weight, requiring fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
- Ability to operate motorized cart, trucks, hand and/or power tools.
- Auditory ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, two-way radio, and face-to-face interactions.
- Ability to work outdoors and indoors under all environmental conditions and temperatures.
- Ability to transport and move items occasionally for short distances up to 50 pounds without difficulty.
- Ability to ascend/ descend ladders, steps, and uneven terrain, while maintaining body equilibrium while performing various jobs.
- Ability to access and navigate each department at the organization on foot, including any construction sites.
- Visual and auditory acuity appropriate for safety and discern differences in documents.
- Exceptional visual acuity is required, along with the ability to communicate, comprehend and decipher/hear information accurately, using a two-way radio.
