Job Summary:
The Locksmith II performs journeyman-level tasks in the repair, resetting and installation of locking devices, and in the manufacture of keys. The Locksmith II is self-sufficient and works individually in the delivery of keys, locks, reparation of doors, hardware or broken glass.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Cuts new or duplicate keys from existing keys, pattern, and code numbers. Maintains record to whom the key was released.
- Installs, maintains, adjusts, services, and recombines all types of locks, locking devices, and related equipment.
- Opens locks for which there are no keys or existing combinations.
- Repairs, resets, and installs locking devices.
- Repairs doors, including electric doors, and door closers in University buildings; repairing or replacing windows or door glass.
- Reads procedures, manuals, and guidelines; processes work orders and key requests.
- Installs street signs.
- Fabricates numerous sizes and shapes of engraved signs using the engraving machine and various types of engraving material.
- Hangs pictures, mirrors, and maps in offices and buildings.
- Moves from building to building on campus.
- Performs related work as required.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
- Two years of experience as a locksmith working with a variety of types of hardware required.
