Position Title: Instructor of Automotive Technology (9-12)
Department: Campus
Reports To: Building Principal
Contract: 2026-2027 School Year (195 Days)

SUMMARY: The role of the auto mechanics teacher is to plan and provide instruction that affords the technical knowledge and skills needed to prepare students for post-secondary education and careers in the automotive industry.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide instruction on performing maintenance and light repair of automobiles.
- Provide instruction on conducting regular preventative maintenance including inspection, tire rotation, and oil changes
- Maintain parts inventory and cleanliness in the shop.
- Perform regular diagnostic tests on automobiles and provide instruction in this area
- Collaborate with repair team to diagnose problems with vehicles and plan repairs
- Maintain accurate records of each repair performed on vehicle and provide instruction.
- Take daily attendance of students and record attendance
- Record grades and assess student performance.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with industry partners to enhance curriculum and provide employment opportunities for students
- Develop and maintain an active advisory committee from relevant local and regional industry professionals.
- Maintain current industry accreditations and explore/implement new accreditations that are beneficial to the program’s and students’ success
- Achieve program recruitment goals to ensure a minimum annual program enrollment.
- Work closely with the Director of Regional Career Center and Dean of Career Education to achieve recruitment and program goals
- Assist with fundraising and grant writing for the automotive technology program
- Ability to create lesson plans and program level outcomes and carry them out effectively as well as follow written curriculum.
- Ability to work with students having a wide range of abilities and skill levels
- Maintain a safe learning environment in the lab/shop area.
- Maintain partnership with Toyota and develop partnerships with other manufacturers in order to provide manufacturers’ training and certifications to all students.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION/LICENSURE/EXPERIENCE:
Technical Permit Requirements:
- 2-years work experience Associates Degree or higher OR 4-year work experience absent of a college
- High School Diploma, High School Equivalency Diploma, OR College Transcripts

- 7 hours of Pre-Licensed Educator Professional Development via www.ideas.aetn.org
