Description
The Department of University Academic Advising Center (UAAC) at Jackson State University is accepting applications for its Student Success Advisor position.
Examples of Duties
Advise Freshmen to Senior level students to include transfer students (this includes nights and weekends during high peak enrollment seasons).
Complete pre-registration/registration schedules, add(s)/drops(s), withdrawals, and change of major forms.
Monitor student progress on a systematic basis throughout the year.
Assist with the identification, selection, admittance, and registration of students.
Assist in planning, organizing and implementing orientation, assessment and placement of students in appropriate curricula .and/or courses.
Teach University Success Courses.
Evaluate transcripts for incoming and continuing transfer students.
Articulate transfer and AP courses to reflect JSU course equivalences.
Create individualized action plans to help each student achieve academic goals.
Devise and implement programs and strategies that will increase the retention rate of students.
Update university programs and curriculums.
Perform degree audits.
Complete all requested reports.
Attend all meetings and programs in the unit.
Serve on unit and university committees.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree (Master's Degree Preferred).
Experience in working in higher education and specifically in an academic advising environment.
Knowledge of excellent orientation programs, University regulations and polices, transfer articulation agreements and retention models.
Knowledge of the Banner System, Degree Works, and the advising module.
Knowledge of academic support strategies and methods.
Excellent oral and written communication skills and computer applications.
