Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Instructor role based in Jackson, TN. The EMS Instructor will teach EMS and paramedic courses, including classroom, lab, and clinical components, following college and state curricula. Responsibilities include preparing lesson plans and instructional materials, delivering engaging lectures and skills demonstrations, and assessing learner performance through exams, skills checks, and practical evaluations. The instructor will coordinate with clinical and field training sites, supervise learners during clinical and prehospital rotations, and ensure compliance with accreditation, state, and National Registry standards. Additional duties include maintaining accurate records, participating in program development and evaluation, advising learners on academic and professional pathways, and contributing to departmental meetings, accreditation activities, and ongoing quality improvement.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated expertise in EMS education, including experience teaching or precepting EMS or paramedic learners.
- Current or recent paramedic-level practice with strong skills in prehospital care and emergency response.
- Certification or eligibility for certification with the U.S. National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT), preferably at the paramedic level.
- Solid foundation in emergency medicine principles, patient assessment, and evidence-based prehospital clinical practice.
- Ability to develop and deliver clear, learner-centered instruction using a variety of teaching methods and simulation tools.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and mentoring skills, with the ability to support a diverse learner population.
- Organizational skills for managing lesson planning, grading, documentation, and coordination with clinical partners.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in EMS, emergency medicine, healthcare, or a related field; advanced degree preferred or willingness to pursue as required by institutional standards.
- Current EMS-related certifications such as BLS, ACLS, PALS, or PHTLS, or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe.
