POSITION SUMMARY:
The Maintenance Apprentice supports the maintenance team in performing basic preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on production machinery and facility equipment. This entry-level role is designed to provide hands-on training and skill development in a food manufacturing environment.
Working under the guidance of experienced technicians and leadership, the Maintenance Apprentice plays an important role in supporting equipment reliability, minimizing downtime, and ensuring safe and efficient operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following statements reflect the general details necessary to describe the major functions of this position and are not intended to be a detailed description of all the work/functions that may be required. Other duties may be assigned. Individual will work a varied schedule based on client needs.
- Assist maintenance technicians with routine maintenance and repair of production and facility equipment
- Support preventative maintenance activities as directed, including inspections, cleaning, lubrication, and basic adjustments
- Learn to use the Fix CMMS to review work orders and document completed tasks
- Assist with equipment setups, changeovers, and production support activities
- Respond to maintenance requests with urgency and escalate issues to senior technicians as needed
- Help maintain tools, parts, and maintenance work areas in a clean and organized manner
- Observe and learn troubleshooting techniques for mechanical and electrical systems
- Assist with installation of parts and equipment under supervision
- Follow all safety, food safety, and quality standards including GMP requirements
- Report any safety, equipment, or food safety concerns to a supervisor immediately
- Participate in training and development opportunities to build technical skills
Required Experience:
- Willing to obtain valid Forklift operator certification
- Able to climb ladders and work at heights up to 50 feet, on occasion; as well as drop ladder into/pull out of tanks and put into position.
- Previous hands-on experience (internship, part-time, or school-based) in mechanical or maintenance work required
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Technical school coursework or enrollment in a maintenance, mechanical, or industrial program required.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and interest in learning industrial maintenance
LANGUAGE SKILLS
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY
