Responsibilities
- Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that cater to the diverse needs of ELL students.
- Assess students' English language proficiency and academic progress through various evaluation methods.
- Provide individualized and small group instruction to support language acquisition and content understanding.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate ELL strategies into the general curriculum.
- Create and maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and confidence.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and strategies for supporting language development at home.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in ELL education.
- Advocate for the needs of ELL students within the school community and contribute to school-wide initiatives that promote diversity and inclusion.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and documentation as required by school and district policies.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Linguistics, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Valid teaching certification with an endorsement in English as a Second Language (ESL) or equivalent.
- Experience working with ELL students in a K-12 educational setting is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of second language acquisition theories and instructional strategies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with students, families, and staff.
- Proficiency in a second language is a plus.
- Commitment to fostering a culturally responsive and inclusive classroom environment.
- Ability to adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the diverse needs of students.
