The University of Kentucky College of Dentistry seeks an accomplished Orthodontic Training Program Director to lead its respected, CODA-accredited 34-month Orthodontic Graduate Program, which awards both a Master of Science degree and Certificate in Orthodontics. The program is known for excellence in clinical education, research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and resident development.
As Program Director, you will oversee graduate education, curriculum development, accreditation compliance, faculty mentorship, resident training, research initiatives, and program growth. Residents receive advanced training in comprehensive orthodontics, clear aligners, surgical orthodontics, and treatment of craniofacial and cleft-related conditions while participating in teaching and scholarly activities.
Responsibilities
The Distribution of Effort (DOE ) for this position will include; 40-45% teaching, 20% administration, 15% research/scholarship /creative activities, 20% patient care services, and 5% personal/professional development.
Specific duties include:
- Serve as liaison between the graduate orthodontic faculty in the Division and the Division Chief.
- Serve as a liaison between the Graduate Orthodontic Training Program and the other Graduate Training Programs in the College.
- Represent the Program at the Program Directors Meeting, MS Oversight Meetings, and national educators’ meetings.
- Oversee the graduate students' progress in their independent research efforts leading to the Master of Science Degree.
- Work with the Director of Graduate Studies to assure all academic policies and procedures are completed in agreement with the University of Kentucky Graduate School.
- Oversee the curriculum for the graduate training program making sure that it is maintained at the highest level and consistent with CODA guidelines and the College Curriculum Management Plan.
- Formulation of the graduate students daily, weekly, monthly and yearly program seminars, conferences, rotations and clinic schedules and evaluations.
- Oversee CODA Accreditation Self-study of the Program.
- Work with the Division Chief to assure that there is adequate faculty to accomplish the educational goals as described by CODA.
- Take a proactive role in recruiting.
- Assist in monitoring and evaluating Division faculty members' performance as it relates to teach in the graduate training program.
- Oversee supervision of staff associates directly involved with the graduate training program.
- Assist the Division Chief in mentoring junior faculty in their professional development.
- Assist the Division Chief in budget processes and financial accountability.
- Oversee the creation of the Divisional strategic plans as it related to the orthodontic graduate training program.
- Teaching and Mentoring junior faculty.
- Provide instruction to predoctoral and/or graduate students/residents as indicated and needed to fulfill the mission of the Division.
- Develop a focus area of scholarly activity with measurable productivity.
- Provide patient care or other service activities related to the Division’s mission.
- Serve on appropriate College and University committees.
- Serve on State, National and/or international committees (e.g., editorial boards, board certification committees, etc.)
Key Requirements
- Completion of a CODA-accredited orthodontic residency program
- American Board of Orthodontics certification
- Eligibility for academic dental licensure in Kentucky
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching, research, and student mentorship
- Leadership experience in graduate education, accreditation, or program administration preferred
