Pharmacy Technician II assists pharmacists in preparing (sterile and non-sterile) and distributing medications, entering medication orders into the pharmacy computer system, issuing narcotics, restocking automated dispensing devices, surgery, floor stock areas, crash carts and fire medic kits, processing patient charges and credits and maintaining the drug inventory.  They work only under the supervision of a registered pharmacist and do not perform duties that can legally be performed only by a registered pharmacist.

Qualifications:

  1. Education: High school diploma or equivalent. College courses desirable, but not required.
  1. Experience: 2-3 years of pharmacy technician experience or 1 year experience as a Pharmacy Technician I after receiving additional training.
  2. Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations: Pharmacy Technician Registration through the Alabama State Board of Pharmacy, National Technician Certification required.
  3. Equipment/Tools/Work Aids: Computer, Reference Books, Calculators, Telephone, Vertical and Horizontal Laminar Flow IV Hoods, Medication Carts, UD Packaging Machine, Automated Dispensing Equipment, TPN Compounder.
  4. Specialized Skills: Ability to calculate ratio and proportion equations.
  5. Physical Requirements: Repetitive use of hands and fingers (e.g. use of a computer keyboard).  May require lifting and carrying light loads (up to 40 lbs), including boxes, equipment, unit-dose cassettes and IV solutions.  Stooping and kneeling (e.g.  to pick up items from the floor, to remove/replace items on lower shelves and to file documents in lower file drawers).  Sitting, walking, or standing for a long period of time (4-8 hours) is often necessary.  Normal range of hearing and vision to perform           work and communicate effectively: Must be able to physically operate the equipment used for the job.
