What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lab Assistant II -FT position at Jackson Hospital and Clinic?
Responsible for the efficient handling of laboratory specimen receipt in a timely manner. Correctly identifies patient specimens, manages specimen processing, specimen accountability and the performance of approved laboratory testing under the direction of Laboratory Technologists I and II. Provide coverage of front desk area which includes receipt of specimens by pneumatic tube, clerical functions associated with specimen receipt, answer phones, and provide information to nurses, doctors, etc. as required. Logs in patient requests from outside facilities or offices. Handles preparation of send out specimens for reference laboratory following outlined protocol.
Requirements:
Education: High School diploma.
Experience: Minimum 1-year Lab Assistant I or Associate degree with medical experience.
Equipment/Tools/Work Aids: Photocopier, computer PC's, printers, fax machine.
Specialized Skills: Requires working knowledge of phlebotomy, performs the clerical function associated with specimen receipt, performs competently the tests that are responsible to report under technical supervision. Ability to work in a moderately stressful environment
Physical Requirements: Good eyesight and hearing and physically able to sit, stand and walk for long periods. Manual dexterity and good eye/hand coordination. High level mental acumen at all times. Periodic heavy lifting (30-50lb) required for reagents and storage boxes. Routine bending, stooping, squatting, and overhead use of arms for retrieving and stocking supplies/reagents.
