Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality nursing care to Veterans in accordance with VA standards and Joint
- Commission requirements.
- Conduct and document patient assessments accurately and promptly.
- Administer medications, monitor responses, and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams.
- Participate in patient care planning and discharge coordination.
- Adhere to all patient safety, infection control, and confidentiality standards
- (HIPAA/Privacy Act).
- Maintain accurate electronic medical records (CPRS/VistA systems).
- Respond effectively to emergencies and manage critical care interventions.
- Demonstrate professionalism, courtesy, and accountability at all times.
Qualifications
Required:
- Current, unrestricted RN license in any U.S. State or Territory
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ACEN or CCNE)
- Minimum 2 years of emergency room experience within the last 5 years
- BLS and ACLS certifications (must be current)
- Ability to pass background investigation and credentialing through VetPro
- TB test (within the last 12 months) and negative drug screening
Preferred:
- Experience in VA or federal healthcare settings
- Familiarity with electronic medical record systems (VistA/CPRS)
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Training Requirements
- Completion of New Employee Orientation (NEO) at MEDVAMC before starting
- Completion of all VHA-mandated online trainings, including Privacy, HIPAA, and Information Security
- Ongoing competency assessments and skills validations as required by VA
