Summary
The Pharmacy Manager Retail plans, coordinates, and directs the activities of the Jackson Retail Pharmacy. This position is responsible for managing all aspects of the operation, assuring compliance with state pharmacy regulations, and providing excellent customer service to our patients.
Responsibilities
With the senior pharmacy leadership, establishes goals and direction for the operational and clinical aspects of pharmacy services in accordance with the overall Department goals and the goals of The JHS. Provides leadership through planning, organizing, coordinating, continually monitoring and evaluating the quality of services provided. Develops, implements and maintains policies and procedures, quality assurance and quality improvement programs for the Pharmacy Department. Establishes and maintains pharmacy practices in accordance with federal, state and local requirements for distributive and clinical activities. Assists in the development of, and maintains practice standards assuring the safe and efficient provision of comprehensive pharmacy services. Ensures staff compliance with hospital wide and area specific policies and procedures and practice standards. Identifies and implements mechanisms for meeting the practice standards required by accreditation and inspection agencies. Ensures area and staff preparedness for accreditation inspections. Assures adequate departmental staffing based on workload while maintaining expected productivity levels for the continuity of operations. Assesses and modifies operating activities as necessary in order to optimize patient care services. Identifies opportunities for the expansion of services in the area of responsibility in order to improve overall patient care. Actively participates in departmental and hospital wide patient safety initiatives. Maintains an effective orientation module for pharmacy staff in order to ensure competency in job skills, knowledge and equipment. Ensures staff participation in required educational programs and appropriate orientation and training courses to maintain competency in knowledge and skills. Establishes and implements staff development programs on a regular basis specific to the area of responsibility. Encourages development and growth of clinical practice pharmacist skills in order to facilitate greater involvement in patient care. Serves as resource person for are clinical practice pharmacists, clinical hospital pharmacists and pharmacy technicians regarding operational or clinical concerns. Coordinates staff participation in drug utilization activities and target drug program. Provides opportunities for staff involvement in the education of the pharmacy, medical and nursing staff as well that of the pharmacy students and residents. Fosters a practice environment that will promote job satisfaction and cooperation among the staff. Participates in the recruitment and interview process for pharmacy personnel. Evaluates performance of assigned personnel including compliance with all personnel policies. Participates in coordinating activities of pharmacy students and interns for the benefit of the department. Serves as preceptor for pharmacy students and interns. Interacts professionally with other departments including nursing and medical staff by participating in multidisciplinary hospital committees, workgroups, attending meetings, addressing and resolving concerns. Develops standards for the cleanliness and orderliness of Pharmacy and assures that these standards are continuously met. Maintains practice involvement in area of expertise. Maintains professional competency by attending local, national, and international continuing education programs. Experience
Generally requires 5 to 7 years of related experience. Management experience is required.
Education
Advanced degree in specialty is required.
Skill

Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure. Ability to understand and follow instructions. Credentials
Current Florida pharmacy license or certification as required.

Physical Requirements - Job function requires frequent sitting, standing or walking for extended period of time. Must be able to carry objects weighing up to 20 pounds.
