Why Jackson: Jackson Behavioral Health Hospital (JBHH) is a three-story, 180,000-square-foot facility committed to the highest quality, treatment, and service. Opened in 1999, JBHH consolidates evaluation, clinical treatment, teaching and research, to offer a full continuum of care for children, adolescents, adults and elderly, including crisis stabilization, inpatient hospitalization, and outpatient programs. In association with the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine’s Department of Psychiatry, JBHH offers specialized treatment for numerous conditions including depression and mood disorders, schizophrenia, suicidal ideation or behavior, anxiety and panic disorders, drug and alcohol abuse and Alzheimer's disease. JBHH also specializes in criminal justice mental health services.

Summary

Pharmacy Technician I works under the direct supervision of licensed pharmacists providing a high level of assistance in compounding (sterile and non-sterile preparations), distribution and dispensing of medication and other pharmaceutical related supplies.

Responsibilities

• Replenishes automated drug distribution machines following a standard procedure established by policy.
• Troubleshoots for problems related to the operation of the automated drug distribution machines.
• Forwards concerns that can not be corrected to the appropriate individual in a timely manner.
• Prepares sterile products (add-a-vials, syringes, IV Admixtures, chemotherapy, large volume parenteral) following standard procedures established by policy and under the supervision, and check of a licensed pharmacist.
• Assures that all quality related procedures are followed.
• Inputs information into the Hospital's inpatient pharmacy clinical information management system as requested.
• For areas not served by point of care automated dispensing equipment, assures that required medications and supplies are dispensed following established procedures.
• Performs extemporaneously compounding and prepackaging under the guidelines of pharmacy policy, and under the supervision, and check of a licensed pharmacist.
• Orders and receives medication inventory; rotates stock and checks expiration dates routinely.
• Follows all established procedures to assure the quality and security of the medication assets.
• Maintains assigned area in a neat, clean, and orderly manner.
• Assembles, tabulates and analyzes quality improvement data when requested.
• Assists in reports and survey tabulation when requested.
• Performs monthly patient care center reviews, as assigned.
• Enters data into the computer system specialized to that activity.
• Attends appropriate orientation, continuing education, and training courses to maintain competency in job skills and knowledge.
• Participates in required educational programs, including HIS, safety, infection control, AIDS awareness, age-related special needs and behaviors, etc.
• Assures a pharmacist checks each preparation prior to it being dispensed.
• Consults with a pharmacist or supervisor when necessary and as required by Florida Statutes, when making exceptions to a policy that would benefit the patient.
• Refers clinical questions to a pharmacist.
• Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise).
• Performs all other related job duties as assigned.

Experience

• Generally requires 0 to 3 years of related experience.

Education

• High School diploma is required.

Credentials

• Must hold a Registered Pharmacy Technician license (RPT) and be CPHT (PTCB) certified or hold a Pharmacist Intern license (PSI).
