Position Summary:
Morgue Attendant plays an important role in the postmortem examination process. Assist pathologists in preparing bodies and organ specimens for examination, while also maintaining the morgue room, supplies and equipment.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Assists pathologist or Pathology Resident with autopsy procedure including but not limited to ensure proper identification and processing of the specimen(s). Maintains the autopsy room and equipment in clean and organized manner, utilizing hospital approved cleaning agents. Receives and reconciles inventory of bodies into the morgue for an accurate count. Reconciles the body count by adhering to the inventory management system. Notifies and follows up with family and the Medical Examiner Office for designated cases to release the bodies within the appropriate timeframe. Ensures all documentation are complete. Records and monitors daily quality controls systems including the temperature of the Morgue walk-in cooler and maintenance of the eye wash station. Monitors and assists in the ordering of morgue supplies. Submits report of supplies to be replenish to the appropriate designated employee. Trains new employees in the duties of the morgue functions. Adheres to Pathology Associates 2 Job description to provide support to the department as needed. Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise). Performs all other related job duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Experience:
Generally requires 0 to 3 years of related experience.
Education:
High School diploma is required.
License Certification:
Valid license or certification is required as needed, based on the job or specialty.
Knowledge Skill Abilities:
Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form. Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure. Ability to understand and follow instructions. Ability to exercise sound and independent judgment. Knowledge and skill in use of job appropriate technology and software applications. Must meet and maintain current all unit specific and organizational skills/competencies, certifications/licensures, as required by the nursing area.
Physical Demands:
Job function requires extended standing or walking. Must be able to carry objects weighing 21 to 50 pounds. Able to lift or move objects weighing 51 to 100 pounds with the use of appropriate devices. Jobs in this group require frequent visual acuity to perform activities related to extended use of computers.
