Responsibilities
- Operates highly sophisticated and intricate X-ray equipment.
- Performs specialized diagnostic procedures using computer systems to visualize body parts and organs.
- Conducts dynamic and other specialized scans of the head, chest, spine, abdomen, and extremities, applying correct windows and levels to ensure high-quality imaging.
- Performs specialized diagnostic procedures such as biopsy and drainage studies, including preparation of sterile fields.
- Ensures radiation protection in accordance with established safety standards.
- Obtains scout views when required.
- Assists physicians during procedures as needed.
- Follows established protocols for computer system start-up and shut-down.
- Reviews patient charts for laboratory results and allergies when contrast studies are ordered.
- Verifies patient identification before transport, before injections, during technologist handoff, and prior to scanning; confirms identity for outpatients by verifying birthdate and clinic card when necessary.
- Provides and utilizes immobilization devices as required, adhering to age-specific safety standards.
- Injects contrast material when approved by a radiologist and in accordance with departmental protocol.
- Practices Universal Precautions and uses appropriate protective measures when handling contrast materials.
- Assists physicians in administering contrast materials.
- Develops films and adjusts automatic film-processing equipment as workload demands.
- Communicates effectively with patients and provides reassurance throughout procedures.
- Performs basic patient-care functions, addressing physical and psychological needs in an age-appropriate manner.
- Initiates life-support measures when necessary; maintains current CPR certification.
- Provides holiday coverage as required.
- Utilizes the HIS computer system to record complete and incomplete procedures accurately.
- Identifies and reports equipment malfunctions to the supervisor and documents issues in the downtime log.
- Completes laboratory records and reports as required.
- Copies pertinent clinical information from the medical record to the radiology request form.
- Complies with all safety regulations, departmental policies, and hospital protocols.
- Participates in on-the-job training for specialized technical areas and attends in-service programs to learn new equipment and advanced techniques.
- Follows all infection-control policies, including Universal Precautions.
- Reviews CQI Quarterly reports during monthly meetings and contributes ideas for quality improvement.

- Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Credentials
- ValidFlorida State license as a Radiology Technologistis required.
- Employees hired BEFORE 2/1/2017 must obtain the required ARRT certification by 12/31/2017. Employees hired AFTER 2/1/2017 who have completed training at JHS MUST obtain their required certification within six months of hire. Any new hires with external training must have the required certification at the time of hire.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers is required upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment.
