The Mental Health Court Coordinator manages the daily operations of the Mental Health Court programs within the 12 District Court of Jackson County. Successful candidate will have a Bachelors Degree, two to three years' experience in an area of criminal justice in a counseling, case worker, or related capacity, and ability to be certified by the State of Michigan to conduct alcohol assessments within three months of hire.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Coordinates the application, implementation and continuation of all Mental Health Court programs and activities while implementing best practices and standards, as identified by the Michigan State Administrative Office. Assists the Deputy Court Administrator with establishing and implementing policies and procedures for the Mental Health Court. Ensures the successful implementation of the Mental Health Court grant by reviewing applications, conducting participant interviews, and coordinating with various stakeholders. This role collaborates with judges, attorneys, community service providers, and contributes to interdisciplinary planning sessions.
1. Plans, organizes, coordinates, and monitors the activities of the Problem-Solving Court program.
2. Daily oversight of Mental Health Court staff and program providers.
3. Attends multidisciplinary team meetings and consults with team members.
4. Generates and distributes reports to the Mental Health Treatment Team.
5. Attends trainings and obtains continuing education in the areas of substance use disorders, other addictions, mental illness, aggression and other related areas.
6. Assists Mental Health Court Case Manager with providing services and management of clients.
7. Collaborates with government and community agencies to meet programmatic goals, funding requirements, and provide effective programming and ancillary services.
8. Research and review evidence based practices related to court operations to ensure program compliance, efficiency, effectiveness and innovation.
9. Assist with the creation, development, implementation and adoption of a systematic program evaluation designed to measure program performance and outcomes.
10. Summarize data; prepare documents, reports and presentations as required.
11. Assist with the preparation of grant applications
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelors Degree in criminal justice, psychology, counseling, or closely related area.
Experience: Two to three years’ experience in an area of criminal justice in a counseling, case worker, or related capacity.
Other Requirements: Certified by the State of Michigan to conduct alcohol assessments within three months of employment. Valid Michigan Driver’s License.
Relevant Skills/Specialized Equipment Knowledge:
- Basic office equipment such as telephone, calculator, photocopier, Fax, etc.
- Photographic, audio and video equipment.
- Computer programs including word processing, spreadsheets, and database entry and maintenance.
- Ability to establish and maintain appropriate professional boundaries with clients.
- Effective communication skills, especially in complicated, high stress and emotional situations.
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
- Knowledge of the judicial system, Michigan Mental Health Code and Administrative Laws.
- Ability to demonstrate sound formal counseling skills.
