GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF WORK PERFORMED:

Water Apprentice Technician is an entry level position that introduces the candidate to the water treatment process. Under close supervision, Water System Apprentice Technicians learn the day-to-day operation of the water system and are introduced to MSDH guidelines as it pertains to water system rules and regulations. Apprentice Technician shall be responsible for completing tasks assigned by licensed operator.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Water Apprentice Technicians do not necessarily need experience working on a water system, as training will be provided. Experience working with fire hydrants, inground valves, hydrant flow testing, system flushing, and water main repairs is a plus.

SPECIFIC JOB REQUIREMENTS MAY INCLUDE
(But are not limited to):

1. Must have a valid Mississippi driver's license for all Authority vehicles and good record.
2. Must be a high school graduate (GED acceptable).
3. Must gain experience necessary to obtain Class D water operator’s license within four years
of hire.
4. Must be knowledgeable of safe practices and procedures use, handling, and storage of chlorine and other water treatment chemicals.
5. Must possess the skills necessary to effectively communicate and relate to members of the general public.
6. Must be physically capable of operating all Authority vehicles and working with hand tools, lift and carry loads up to 75 lbs. Must meet all physical conditions established by Authority Industrial Wellness Advisor and Evaluator.
7. Must not fear confined spaces or heights.
8. Must be able to work around chlorine.
9. Must be insurable on the Authority's auto insurance policy.
10. Must be able to work call-out for constant monitoring.
11. Must maintain a residence which allows a reasonable response time.
