Job Summary:
The Preschool Special Education Teacher provides specialized instruction and support to preschool-aged children (ages 3–5) with disabilities in accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Georgia Department of Education regulations, and district policies. This position is responsible for developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), fostering inclusive practices, collaborating with families and service providers, and ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local requirements.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree and eligible for GaPSC provisional certification in Special Education
- Strong classroom management, communication, and interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Valid GaPSC teaching certification in Special Education General Curriculum
- Advanced degree in education or related field
- Experience working with preschool-aged children with disabilities in inclusive or specialized settings preferred.
- Knowledge of IEP writing and compliance
- Knowledge of IDEA, Georgia DOE regulations, and early childhood developmental milestones.
Working Conditions:
- Work is performed in a standard in-person classroom setting within a high school environment
- Regularly involves movement, speaking, and interacting with students, parents, and colleagues
- May require occasional lifting of students,materials, or equipment up to 30lbs or more
- May require occasional student restraint, training in restraint techniques will be provided
- Requires the ability to use classroom technology, including projectors, computers, and learning management systems
- Regular work hours are during the school day, with occasional evening or weekend commitments for parent-teacher conferences, school events, or professional development
- Must be adaptable to varying student needs and class sizes
- May include additional duties such as sponsoring extracurricular activities or supervising student clubs
