About the Role
Jackson County School System is seeking dependable, positive, and student-focused individuals to join our School Nutrition Program as SNP Food Assistants. This essential role supports daily cafeteria operations by preparing and serving meals, ensuring compliance with food safety standards, and creating a welcoming environment for students and staff.
No prior food service experience is required—training is provided
What You'll Do
- Prepare, portion, and serve food following USDA and district guidelines.
- Maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen, including equipment, utensils, storage, and prep areas.
- Monitor and restock serving lines during meal service.
- Record meal counts, production records, and temperature logs accurately.
- Receive, store, and organize food and supply deliveries.
- Operate standard commercial kitchen equipment safely.
- Assist with trash removal and general kitchen upkeep.
- Follow all federal/state regulations and Jackson County Board of Education policies.
- Maintain positive relationships with managers, coworkers, students, and staff.
- Participate in required annual training, including USDA O.N.E. Training and 6 hours of Professional Standards training.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support efficient kitchen operations.

- Ability to meet physical demands: prolonged standing, lifting up to 50 lbs., working in hot/cold environments, and frequent bending or reaching.
Work Environment
- School kitchen setting with moderate to loud noise levels.
- Exposure to heat, cold, hot water, and approved cleaning chemicals.
- Requires regular standing, walking, and physical activity.
