Description
The Elementary Physical Education Teacher will plan, organize, and implement a developmentally appropriate PE program for students in grades K–5. The teacher will promote lifelong physical activity, teach fundamental motor skills, and foster teamwork, sportsmanship, and positive social interaction. Instruction should align with state standards while creating an engaging, inclusive, and safe learning environment for all students.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education or related field
- Eligible to hold a GaPSC issued teaching certificate
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree or higher in Physical Education
- Hold a GaPSC issued teaching certificate in Physical Education
- Experience teaching Elementary Physical Education
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement standards-based lessons that promote physical fitness, motor skill development, and student well-being
- Teach and model positive behaviors such as teamwork, communication, sportsmanship, and healthy lifestyle choices
- Assess student progress and maintain accurate records as required
- Create a safe environment by ensuring proper use of equipment and enforcing safety protocols
- Collaborate with school staff, administrators, and district personnel to support student development and school initiatives
- Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues
- May be required to fulfill additional afterschool coaching duties at base or other school as assigned
- Participate in professional development and maintain required certifications
Working Conditions
This position requires higher-than-average physical demands consistent with teaching physical education, including:
- Regular running, walking, standing, bending, lifting, and demonstrating physical activities
- Ability to lift, move, and set up equipment
- Outdoor supervision and instruction in varying weather conditions
- Active engagement with students during lessons, activities, and games
- Work is performed in a standard in-person classroom setting
- Regular work hours are during the school day, with occasional evening or weekend commitments for parent-teacher conferences, school events, or professional development
- Must be adaptable to varying student needs and class sizes
- May include additional duties such as coaching, sponsoring extracurricular activities, or supervising student clubs
Employment Terms:
- 190 Work Calendar
- Annual Salary based on degree level and previous years of experience in a similar role
