Position Overview
This position ensures that all solid waste rules, regulations, and policies are adhered to; and provides educational opportunities to all affected person and businesses regarding solid waste disposal.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Enforces solid waste rules and regulations.
- Inspects properties for violations of rules.
- Educates and investigates violators of rules.
- Addresses citizen complaints and concerns regarding illegal dumping or other violations.
- Prepares reports and correspondence pertaining to violations.
- Attends court sessions as required.
- Operates scale house occasionally.
- Performs other related job duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent; three (3) years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Licenses or Certifications:
Possession of a valid, State of North Carolina driver’s license to operate a motor vehicle. Requirement exists at the time of hire and as a condition of continued employment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of County and departmental policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
- Knowledge of the geography of the County and surrounding areas.
- Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.
- Skill in interpersonal relations and customer service.
- Skill in utilizing such office equipment as a calculator, typewriter, facsimile machine, and copier.
- Skill in using computers for data entry, word processing, and/or accounting purposes.
- Skill in prioritizing and organizing work.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to comprehend and execute verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to work in all types of weather.
- Ability to remain impartial and objective in dealing with the public.
- Ability to effectively communicate and interact with management, employees, members of the general public and other groups involved in the activities of the County as they relate to the department.
