Duties
- Perform comprehensive physical examinations and patient assessments to determine health status and identify medical conditions.
- Prescribe medications and treatment regimens in accordance with state and federal regulations, including DEA guidelines.
- Manage acute and chronic illnesses across various specialties such as internal medicine, geriatrics, emergency medicine, and behavioral health.
- Conduct diagnostic evaluations utilizing EMR/EHR systems like Epic, Cerner, or eClinicalWorks to document patient encounters accurately.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, specialists, and case managers to coordinate patient care plans.
- Provide patient education on disease management, medication administration, lifestyle modifications, and preventive health strategies.
- Assist in procedures such as suturing, IV insertion, catheterization, spinal taps, dermal fillers, Botox treatments (Botulinum toxin), and esthetic laser treatments.
- Participate in clinical research initiatives and contribute to quality improvement projects within the practice setting.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and maintain meticulous medical records for legal and billing purposes.
- Engage in telehealth consultations to expand access to care and support patients remotely when appropriate.
Skills
- Extensive experience working with electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic, Athenahealth, Cerner, or eClinicalWorks for documentation and order entry.
- Proficiency in performing advanced procedures including suturing, phlebotomy, venipuncture, catheter care, tube feeding management, and sterile processing techniques.
- Strong knowledge of pharmacology for medication prescribing across multiple specialties including pain management and psychopharmacology.
- Critical care experience from ICU or Level I/II trauma center settings; familiarity with ventilator management and airway procedures.
- Skilled in managing complex cases involving infectious disease care, hospice & palliative medicine, occupational health issues, and post-acute care planning.
- Ability to perform diagnostic evaluations using sonography or medical imaging modalities; experience with laboratory specimen collection/processing is a plus.
- Excellent client communication skills tailored for diverse populations including pediatrics (children & infants), seniors (geriatrics & memory care), individuals with disabilities or developmental disabilities.
- Knowledge of CPT coding (Current Procedural Terminology) and ICD coding (International Classification of Diseases) for accurate billing practices.
- Experience working within hospital environments such as emergency rooms or inpatient units; familiarity with trauma protocols is advantageous.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within multidisciplinary teams under collaborative practice agreements.
