The Jackie Joyner-Kersee Foundation is seeking dependable, energetic, and caring individuals to join our Youth Development team. This is more than a supervision role—you'll build relationships, encourage academic success, lead engaging activities, and help create a safe, supportive environment where students can thrive.

Important Before You Apply

This position works Monday-Friday from 1:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m except Wednesday is 12:30 - 6pm. Applicants must be consistently available during these hours.

Minimum two years of experience working directly with groups of school-age children in a school, licensed childcare center, youth program, recreation program, camp, or organized coaching/mentoring environment. Experience limited to babysitting, caring for family members, or informal childcare does not meet the minimum qualifications. Please include this experience on your resume.

Job responsibilities

  • Build positive relationships with students while serving as a mentor and role model.
  • Lead engaging educational, recreational, and enrichment activities.
  • Assist students with homework and academic support.
  • Supervise students while maintaining a safe and welcoming environment.
  • Encourage positive behavior and reinforce program expectations.
  • Support activities in Education, STEAM, Arts, Sports, Recreation, and other enrichment areas.
  • Assist with student arrival, attendance, snack service, and dismissal.
  • Collaborate with fellow staff to create an outstanding afterschool experience.
  • Participate in special events and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience working directly with school-age children.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to effectively supervise groups of children.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug screening.
  • Willingness to obtain Mandated Reporter and CPR/First Aid certifications.

Preferred

  • College coursework or a degree in Education, Psychology, Social Work, Child Development, Recreation, or a related field.

Physical Requirements

This active position requires employees to walk, stand, bend, reach, participate in activities with children, supervise indoor and outdoor programming, and respond appropriately during emergencies.
