Jack Tyler Engineering is seeking an experienced Electrical Controls Technician to join our Service team. This is a hands-on field service position focused on troubleshooting, servicing, and repairing electrical controls associated with pumps, motors, lift stations, and related municipal and industrial equipment. We are seeking candidates at the Technician II or III level. The appropriate level will be determined based on experience, demonstrated technical competency, troubleshooting capability, and level of independence.
Duties
- Install, troubleshoot, service, and repair electrical control panels and related equipment.
- Diagnose electrical and control issues associated with pumps, motors, lift stations, and related systems.
- Perform electrical testing and diagnostics using multimeters and other appropriate test equipment.
- Troubleshoot control components such as breakers, contactors, overloads, relays, fuses, phase monitors, level controls, floats, and related components.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, technical manuals, and equipment documentation.
- Perform or assist with equipment installation and startup.
- Perform preventative maintenance and field inspections.
- Verify proper system operation, including pump cycling, sequencing, alarms, voltage, control voltage, and amperage.
- Explain identified problems, repairs, and recommended corrective actions to customers.
- Accurately document service work, testing, findings, and repairs.
- Maintain assigned service vehicles, tools, meters, and equipment.
- Follow JTE electrical safety procedures, customer-site requirements, and required PPE practices.
- Participate in the on-call rotation and respond to emergency service needs as required.
What We're Looking For
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Relevant experience or technical training in electrical controls, industrial electrical systems, motor controls, industrial maintenance, or a related technical field preferred.
- Strong electrical and mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability.
- Experience with three-phase power, VFDs, or advanced level controls is a plus and may be considered in determining technician level.
- Ability to safely use multimeters and other electrical testing and diagnostic equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Knowledge of pumps, motors, lift stations, level controls, or related municipal or industrial equipment is a plus.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently or with guidance based on experience and demonstrated competency.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
- Ability to pass a DOT physical and obtain and maintain a valid DOT Medical Card.
- Ability to pass required background screening and drug testing.
Schedule amp; Travel
This position requires daily local and regional travel to customer locations, with occasional overnight travel. Technicians must be available for overtime and scheduled or unscheduled service needs, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and participation in the on-call rotation as required.
Physical amp; Work Environment
This is a hands-on field-service position performed in municipal and industrial environments, indoors and outdoors, around electrical and mechanical equipment. The position requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, climbing, using tools and testing equipment, and frequently lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
This position requires daily local and regional travel to customer locations, with occasional overnight travel. Technicians must be available for overtime and scheduled or unscheduled service needs, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and participation in the on-call rotation as required.
