What are the responsibilities and job description for the Kennel Assistant/Hospital Support position at Jack London Pet Hospital?
At our hospital, we believe great medicine starts with a clean, calm, and supportive environment—for our patients, our clients, and our team.
We’re looking for someone kind, dependable, and motivated to join us in a foundational role that keeps our hospital running. This position is centered around hospital care and cleanliness, with the opportunity to learn hands-on animal care skills along the way.
If you’re curious about the veterinary field, thinking about becoming a veterinary nurse, or just want to do meaningful work with a team that truly cares—this is a great place to start.
What you’ll be part of
This role is essential to patient care. You’ll help create a space where pets feel safe, the team can do their best work, and clients feel taken care of.
Your day will include:
Creating a clean, safe hospital
- Cleaning and sanitizing kennels with attention to detail and proper protocols
- Resetting exam rooms between appointments so each patient has a fresh start
- Maintaining a clean, welcoming environment throughout the hospital
- Supporting end-of-day treatment area cleaning
Supporting patient care
- Making sure hospitalized pets have what they need: fresh water, meals, clean litter boxes, and walks when appropriate
- Preparing kennels for incoming patients so they’re comfortable and stress-minimized
- Learning and practicing fear-free, low-stress animal handling
- Assisting with basic tasks like nail trims, shaving, or other treatments as you’re trained
Helping the team stay ready
- Laundry (a very real and important part of hospital life)
- Restocking exam rooms and treatment areas
- Cleaning, sanitizing, and packing surgical instruments
Who you are
We’re less focused on experience and more focused on who you are as a teammate.
You might be a great fit if you:
- Are 18 and show up reliably for your team
- Take pride in doing things thoroughly and correctly
- Are positive, grounded, and willing to jump in wherever needed
- Can take direction from multiple people and stay flexible in a fast-paced environment
- Genuinely care about animals and the people who love them
- Are comfortable seeing sick, injured, or stressed pets and want to help them feel better
- Value teamwork, communication, and a supportive workplace
Why people love working here
- You’ll be part of a team that prioritizes respect, communication, and a positive environment
- We practice low-stress, fear-free handling and truly advocate for our patients
- You’ll gain real, hands-on experience in veterinary medicine
- There’s opportunity to grow into a veterinary assistant or nursing path if that’s your goal
