JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Culinary Services Director, the Dining Technician is the direct liaison between the main production kitchen and the satellite Household kitchens. The Dining Technician is responsible for performing a myriad of tasks as a direct support for the household kitchens such as: delivering food and supplies, setting up and breaking down service areas before and after meals periods, maintaining clean and organized foodservice areas, monitoring proper food rotation and sanitation processes and fulfilling special requests for residents, guests and staff. The Dining Technician is also responsible for performing light food prep such as preparing salads, sandwiches, fruit, desserts and texture modified food items. Additionally, the Dining Technician will assist in ware washing, general cleaning, receiving stock and organizing storerooms to support the production kitchen. The Dining Technician respectfully interacts with all residents, family members, visitors, colleagues and staff. This is a safety sensitive position.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Responds to resident inquiries and resolves resident complaints.
  • Loads and unloads inventory from trucks. Stocks storeroom.
  • Maintains the kitchen, serving, and dining areas in clean and orderly condition at all times by sweeping, mopping, emptying trash, wiping counters and equipment and organizing shelves in order to maintain a sanitary work station and to meet mandated health compliance requirements.
  • Light food preparation work such as washing and peeling fruits & vegetables
  • Transporting food carts to and from designated serving areas
  • Performs clean-up duties after each meal service; and, prepares and sets up for next meal.
  • Stocks service areas with supplies such as coffee, food, tableware, and linens
  • Follows guidelines for proper ware washing and sanitation.
  • Accomplish tasks under minimal supervision
  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this job.

ESSENTIAL MENTAL AND PHYSICAL FUNCTIONS

The essential mental and physical functions listed below are required in order for an employee to be able to perform the essential functions of this position.

  • Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly frequent movements from place to place within the unit. Bend, lift, carry, reach/extend arms and hands above shoulder height frequently, or otherwise move in a constantly changing environment.
  • Lifting, carrying, and pushing up to 25 lbs. regularly, 30-35 lbs. frequently, and up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
  • Ability to stand for the entire work day.
  • Withstanding temperature extremes in freezer, refrigerator walk-in and steam tables.
  • Reading and writing work-related documents in English.
  • Speech recognition and clarity, including the ability to understand the speech of customers and co-workers and the ability to speak clearly so that you can be understood by customers and co-workers in English.
  • Constantly communicates and receives verbal communication with other employees.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Partial High School education; High School Diploma/G.E.D. equivalent preferred.
  • At least 2 years of relevant work experience required
  • Food Safety Certified
  • Demonstrated talent for interacting with a wide variety of people
  • Ability to effectively organize and coordinate multiple priorities; ability to work well as a team leader; ability to problem solve
  • Strong sanitation habits.
  • Genuine interest in geriatrics and compassion for aging.
  • Strong customer service abilities; actively looks for ways to assist residents and coworkers.
