In this role, you will integrate core engineering principles with practical shop-floor and field expertise across industrial, agricultural, ethanol, food processing, and power generation sectors. You will lead process design and performance calculations (heat transfer, fluid mechanics, structural loading), support manufacturing fabrication and quality standards, assist with field commissioning and troubleshooting, and drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance energy efficiency and water conservation.

Key Responsibilities

  • System Design & Analysis: Design and evaluate industrial cooling towers; perform thermodynamic and mechanical calculations covering heat rejection, fluid dynamics, evaporation rates, and structural loads.

  • Manufacturing & Fabrication Support: Review shop drawings, cut lists, and bills of materials (BOMs); optimize fabrication processes for composite/steel components and resolve production bottlenecks.

  • Technical Documentation: Author engineering specifications, 2D/3D CAD models, structural layouts, assembly instructions, and technical performance reports.

  • Field Engineering & Commissioning: Conduct on-site inspections, performance audits, structural assessments, and troubleshooting; assist field teams with system startup and commissioning.

  • Quality Assurance & Root Cause Analysis: Establish component testing procedures, inspect manufactured parts, lead failure analyses, and implement corrective/preventive actions (CAPA).

  • Environmental & Safety Compliance: Ensure designs meet OSHA, EPA, ASME, ANSI, and Cooling Technology Institute (CTI) guidelines, focusing on drift elimination and water treatment compatibility.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with sales, structural/civil engineers, estimators, and plant operations to provide custom engineering solutions for customer RFQs.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural/Biosystems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.

  • Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years of progressive engineering experience within manufacturing, heavy industrial equipment, process cooling, or industrial construction.

  • Core Technical Competencies: Strong working knowledge of heat transfer, fluid dynamics, closed/open loop water distribution systems, and structural mechanics.

  • CAD Proficiency: Hands-on proficiency using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, or equivalent 3D/2D CAD modeling software.

  • Site Readiness & Mobility: Valid driver’s license and the ability to travel to manufacturing plants, active construction jobsites, and client facilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with fiberglass-reinforced plastic (FRP), pultrusion processes, composite manufacturing, structural steel fabrication, or timber structures.

  • Familiarity with Cooling Technology Institute (CTI) testing standards and performance curves.

  • Experience utilizing FEA (Finite Element Analysis) or CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) modeling tools.

  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001 quality management systems and industrial safety regulations.

Physical & Environmental Demands

  • Ability to inspect active industrial plants, climb ladders and stair towers, walk elevated platforms, and navigate cooling tower basins.

  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs occasionally and wear required PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toe boots, fall arrest gear).
