What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fabricator position at J Racenstein?
Job Description: Manufacturing Technician – Custom Fabrication
Company: ProTool / J. Racenstein
Location: Costa Mesa / Santa Ana, California, United States
Employment Type: Full-Time
Position Overview
As a Manufacturing Technician – Custom Fabrication, you will be responsible for the hands-on fabrication, assembly, and testing of custom-built pressure washing skids, cleaning skids, and pure water systems. This role is centered around one-off and custom builds, where no two projects are the same.
This is not an assembly-line position and not a SOP-driven production role. We are looking for a technician who can think critically, adapt on the fly, and creatively fabricate solutions when detailed instructions do not exist. You will often work from high-level concepts, sketches, or customer requirements rather than step-by-step manuals.

- Cut, fit, route, and secure plumbing, hoses, wiring, and hardware without predefined SOPs
- Wire low-voltage control panels and electronic devices, adapting layouts as needed per build
- Independently problem-solve fitment, spacing, and functionality challenges during fabrication
- Perform functional testing and quality checks to ensure systems operate as intended
- Modify, rework, or improve designs in real time as build requirements evolve
Quality, Safety & Documentation
- Ensure all builds meet ProTool quality, performance, and safety standards
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
- Document build decisions, changes, and outcomes to support future improvements
