What are the responsibilities and job description for the Overhead Door Installer position at J&R Specialties, Inc?
J&R Specialties Inc., a trusted leader in overhead door and dock solutions in WNY, is looking to expand its expert installation team. We are seeking an Overhead Door Installer with at least one year of commercial experience to join our crew.
In this role, you will work alongside and under the guidance of our experienced Lead installers. This is a stable, year-round position where you will work both indoors and outdoors to install new equipment, perform maintenance, and repair existing commercial doors throughout the Western New York region. Key Responsibilities
- Work closely under the direction of a leadership to safely and efficiently execute projects.
- Report to the Akron, NY shop every morning to load up and travel to various job sites across WNY.
- Assist with the installation, service, and maintenance of a wide range of commercial products, including:
- Sectional and overhead doors
- Coiling doors and grilles
- High-speed doors
- Smoke and fire curtains
- Dock equipment (levelers, seals, restraints)
- Perform hands-on troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and repairs on existing doors.
- Ensure all company-provided tools are properly used, maintained, and organized.
- Maintain a professional attitude and strong commitment to job site safety.
Required Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum of 1 year of commercial overhead door installation or service experience.
- Transportation: Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable personal transportation to commute to our shop in Akron, NY.
- Physical Ability: Able to lift heavy materials, work comfortably at heights (from ladders and lifts), and work in varied outdoor weather conditions.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and a desire to learn and grow within the trade.
- Commitment to team safety and high-quality craftsmanship.
Preferred Qualifications (A Plus)
- Experience with hollow metal doors and frames.
- Welding experience or basic fabrication skills.
- Familiarity with lift operation (scissor lift/boom lift).
