Overview
The heavy equipment lead mechanic is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair of various heavy equipment, such as excavators, bulldozers, off-road rock trucks, and rollers. This role requires strong leadership skills, the ability to troubleshoot and diagnose complex issues, and extensive knowledge in hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
Responsibilities
- Lead a team of mechanics in performing routine maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment to ensure they are functioning optimally
- Provide training and guidance to junior mechanics on maintenance procedures and corrective measures
- Troubleshoot and diagnose complex issues using diagnostic tools and equipment
- Implement preventative maintenance programs to extend the lifespan of equipment
- Keep detailed records of maintenance and repair orders, ensuring accuracy and completeness
- Maintain a safe working environment by adhering to safety protocols and procedures
- Communicate with management to provide updates on equipment status and maintenance needs
- Manage inventory of spare parts and equipment, ensuring an adequate supply is always available
- Stay current on industry trends and advancements in heavy equipment technology
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent education required
- Completion of a certified technical school program in heavy equipment maintenance or related field (preferred)
- 5 years of experience working in heavy equipment maintenance and repair, with at least 2 years in a leadership role (preferred)
- Proficiency in hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose complex issues
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills
- Basic computer skills, including knowledge of maintenance software programs
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, sit, or kneel for extended periods of time
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to work in various weather conditions, including extreme temperatures and exposure to noise and vibration from equipment

- Must provide own tools

Schedule: Fulltime
- Monday-Friday
- 6:30AM – 3:00PM (may require extended hrs. when needed)
