Hours: Full-Time, 8 Hours per Day

Arizona Teaching Certificate
Minimum of three (3) years of satisfactory teaching experience
Demonstrates :
Strong knowledge of Arizona State Standards and English Language Arts national standards,
District reading curricula and programs, familiarity with instructional programs and resources
overall
Knowledge of current academic and instructional research
In-depth knowledge of early literacy skills and practices, English Language Arts standards,
practices, skills and instruction
In-depth knowledge of intensive reading intervention practices and language-based learning
disabilities
Work with District Reading Specialists
In-depth knowledge of district intensive reading programs
Preferred trainer qualifications in or ability to pursue Wilson Language Training Systems
Knowledge of the use of common literacy assessments and diagnostic tools
Knowledge and understanding of Arizona State Literacy Plan and Move on When Reading
Knowledge of Title I requirements and Comprehensive Needs Assessment (CNA) development
Technology literacy and a willingness to use technology innovatively
Skill in instructional processes that facilitate integration of curriculum
Additional training or coursework in English Language Arts
Strong understanding of Reading intervention and appropriate instructional practices
Ability to work effectively and efficiently without constant supervision and under stressful
timelines
Ability to develop and maintain cooperative and effective professional relationships with district
personnel at all levels: ability to motivate others
Ability and willingness to work outside the traditional working hours of teachers, including
evenings and weekends as needed.

Position Goal:
The Content Coach is a master teacher who serves as a link for curriculum, assessment and
professional development and best practices to instruction involving content knowledge, knowledge of the
standards assessment of student learning and application of learning acquired in through professional learning.
The primary responsibility of the District Early Literacy Coach is to maintain and improve reading instruction
across the district.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
The District Early Literacy Coach works in conjunction with district leadership, site leadership, and various
departments to enhance teacher effectiveness and student achievement. Expectations include the following.
The coach will:
Assist with communicating the district’s curriculum to staff, parents, and the community
Coordinate and assist with recommendations for materials acquisition related to reading and
writing curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional development
Assist in the development of district professional development programs
Conduct classroom observations and mentor teachers needing assistance with curriculum and
assessment.
Assist with summer school curriculum, assessments, and professional development
Train new and continuing teachers in the use of district materials curricula and State Standards
Assist individual teachers and administrators in the development of specialized programs and/or
projects
Coordinate teacher professional growth in reading, reading intervention and reading extension
Work with district reading specialists to maintain and further develop core and tier programs
Establish positive relationships and maintain open lines of communication with teachers,
department chairs, site leadership teams, principal, specialists
Work effectively in a team setting with other content area specialists, professional development
specialist and instructional coach
Assist in the evaluation of curriculum
Provide leadership in the writing and revising of curricula
Assist with textbook/resource adoption process
Work to facilitate the implementation of district/site reading intervention systems
Coordinate the development of district-level assessments
management decisions that will positively impact student achievement
Be available for demonstration teaching, staff in-services, and assistance with teacher
observation/mentoring
Maintain state and national presence for Reading programs through conference and committee
participation and other appointments as they arise
Maintain current knowledge of instructional “Best Practice” methodologies
Assist in pursuing grant monies to enhance initiatives
Maintain a presence on district campuses by working with sites and/or departments and a variety
of content area departments and teachers to promote student achievement in reading
Maintain collaboration between and among CIA and professional development departments
