Duties
- Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing dental instruments and ensuring all equipment is ready for procedures in accordance with dental sterilization procedures and infection prevention management policies
- Assist dentists chairside during various treatments including general dentistry, pediatric dentistry, oral surgery, endodontics, prosthodontics, and other specialty procedures
- Take and develop dental x-rays and medical imaging, ensuring proper technique and patient safety in compliance with HIPAA and clinical confidentiality policies
- Manage electronic medical records using EMR systems such as Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or Epic, accurately documenting treatment notes, medical history, vital signs, and medical coding
- Provide patient education on oral health practices while maintaining a friendly demeanor; support patients through the dental appointment process as a dental receptionist when needed
- Process dental instruments through proper sterilization techniques and maintain aseptic environments to prevent infection transmission
- Support the dental team with administrative tasks including scheduling appointments, updating medical documentation, and managing patient flow efficiently
Skills
- Proficiency with dental software platforms such as Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or Epic for managing medical records and documentation
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, and clinical procedures across various specialties including pediatric dentistry, endodontics, prosthodontics, and oral surgery
- Experience with dental x-ray techniques, including digital imaging and 3D scanner technology for accurate diagnosis and treatment planning
- Expertise in healthcare infection prevention and control practices aligned with OSHA standards; skilled in aseptic technique and infection prevention management
- Ability to perform chairside assisting with four-handed dentistry techniques to enhance efficiency during procedures
- Familiarity with medical terminology related to dentistry and general healthcare to ensure precise communication within the team
- Excellent organizational skills for managing dental instrument processing, medical records maintenance, and medical documentation accuracy
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to uphold patient confidentiality at all times
