Eligibility: Must be a US person
Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineer with hands-on experience in aerospace welding to join our production planning team. In this role, you will apply your technical background to learn and execute production planning tasks, ensuring seamless alignment between customer needs, forecasts, and manufacturing capabilities. This position offers an excellent opportunity to expand your skills in areas like routing creation, BOM development, and dynamic scheduling while contributing to high-quality aerospace production. Based on industry standards, such roles often involve optimizing processes to meet strict timelines and quality requirements in a collaborative setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop manufacturing routings, PQR, WPS, and process plans for aerospace components, incorporating welding techniques to ensure precision and efficiency.
- Create and maintain Bill of Materials (BOMs) by analyzing material needs, costs, and availability.
- Plan production schedules based on customer demands, forecasted requirements, and inventory levels, adjusting for real-time changes such as supply disruptions or priority shifts.
- Coordinate closely with Estimators for cost projections, Production teams for execution, and Inventory managers for material flow, fostering cross-functional alignment.
- Monitor and optimize production processes using Lean principles, identifying improvements in workflow and equipment utilization.
- Support root cause analysis for production issues, particularly those related to welding and assembly, and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with aerospace regulations and quality standards throughout planning and execution phases.
Qualifications and skills preferred but not required
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field; advanced degrees or certifications (e.g., in welding or production management) are advantageous.
- Proven experience in aerospace welding, including processes like electron beam, gas tungsten arc, or friction-stir welding, with at least 2-5 years in manufacturing environments.
- Familiarity with production planning tools such as ERP systems, and a strong desire to learn advanced scheduling and BOM management.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to work under pressure in team-oriented settings.
- Knowledge of aerospace materials (e.g., titanium, aluminum alloys) and standards like ASME or AWS is preferred.
Responsibility | Description | Relevance to Welding Experience |
Creating PQR WPS | Develop step-by-step process plans for component fabrication and assembly. | Ensures welding sequences are optimized for material integrity and efficiency. |
Developing BOMs | Compile lists of materials, parts, and costs required for production. | Incorporates welding-specific materials like alloys, preventing compatibility issues. |
Production Scheduling | Align schedules with demands, forecasts, and real-time adjustments. | Accounts for welding cycle times and post-weld inspections to avoid delays. |
Team Coordination | Collaborate with estimators, production, and inventory for seamless operations. | Facilitates input on welding feasibility during estimation and inventory planning. |
Process Optimization | Implement Lean methods, root cause analysis, and automation. | Applies welding knowledge to improve processes like robotic welding for consistency. |
Compliance and Testing | Ensure adherence to standards through qualification and inspections. | Involves weld testing (e.g., NDE, mechanical) to meet aerospace safety norms. |
Compliance
- Must be a U.S. person as defined by the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and/or Export Administration Regulations (EAR).
- Must comply with all company policies regarding the handling of sensitive and confidential information.
This role is suited for those eager to bridge technical engineering with strategic planning, potentially leading to senior positions in aerospace operations.
