HVAC Estimator – Job Description
Position Summary:
The HVAC Estimator is responsible for analyzing project plans and specifications to prepare accurate cost estimates for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning installations. This role requires strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to balance project requirements with cost efficiency. The Estimator works closely with project managers, engineers, and clients to ensure competitive and profitable bids.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review blueprints, specifications, and project documents to determine the scope of work and required materials.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor services.
- Analyze HVAC system designs to identify cost-saving opportunities or potential issues.
- Solicit and review quotes from suppliers and subcontractors.
- Develop and submit competitive bids and proposals within deadlines.
- Collaborate with project managers and engineers to ensure estimates align with design intent and project goals.
- Track and update pricing information for materials, equipment, and labor rates.
- Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits to gather necessary project information.
- Assist in project handoff meetings to ensure smooth transition from estimating to construction.
- Maintain organized records of bids, estimates, and correspondence for future reference.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required; degree or certificate in HVAC, Construction Management, or Engineering preferred.
- 3 years of experience in HVAC estimating, project management, or related field.
- Strong understanding of HVAC systems, materials, and installation methods.
- Proficiency with estimating software, spreadsheets, and takeoff tools.
- Excellent analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and negotiation abilities.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously.
- Valid driver’s license; field visits may be required.
- Drug screening required prior to hire.
Work Environment:
- Office-based with occasional site visits.
- Full-time position with standard business hours; may require extended hours during bid deadlines.
