Cashier - Part Time Evening

Job Summary

We are seeking a reliable and friendly Cashier to join our team part time in the evening hours. The Cashier will be responsible for processing customer transactions, providing excellent customer service, and maintaining a clean and organized work environment. This position requires attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Accurately process customer transactions using a cash register, POS (Point of Sale) system
• Scan items, calculate totals, apply discounts, and handle cash, credit/debit card payments, and other forms of payment.
• Greet customers in a friendly, welcoming manner, and provide assistance as needed.
• Address customer inquiries, concerns, and complaints in a professional and courteous manner.
• Provide information on store promotions, products, and services.
• Ensure that the cash register and surrounding areas are neat and orderly throughout the shift.
• Assist with closing duties as needed.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

• Must be 16 years of age or older
• High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
• Previous cashier or retail experience is a plus, but not required.

Skills & Competencies

• Ability to handle cash, credit, and electronic transactions accurately.
• Must have excellent communication skills including reading, speaking and writing the English language.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive attitude.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and handle occasional physical tasks, such as bagging or lifting items.

Desirable Qualifications

• Previous cashier experience in a retail or grocery setting.
• Strong customer service skills, with the ability to interact positively with customers.
• Basic math skills for handling transactions and making change accurately.
• Attention to detail to ensure correct pricing and scanning of items.
• Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to handle cash, credit, and electronic payments securely and accurately.
• Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems or willingness to learn.
• Problem-solving skills to address customer concerns or resolve transaction issues.
• Team player with a positive attitude towards collaboration with colleagues.
• Flexibility in working varied shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Basic knowledge of grocery store products (e.g., produce codes, item categories) is a plus.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

• This position may require working evenings, weekends, and holidays based on the needs of the business.
• The cashier will typically work in a retail or customer service environment, which can be busy during peak hours.
• Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds
