Role Description As a Wind Turbine Field Welder / Mechanical Technician at J&J, you will support the wind division in all aspects, primarily focusing on up-tower repairs. Your daily tasks will range from specialty up-tower repairs such as welding blade bearing teeth and generator frames, blade bolt extraction, and basic preventive maintenance. You will be responsible for providing quality services, following site rules, and adhering to all safety policies. Detailed reports on tasks performed must be completed daily.
Qualifications
- Strong welding skills, with the ability to select and apply appropriate techniques in the field.
- Knowledge of Materials used in wind turbine construction and repair, including metals and alloys, and their behavior under stress and environmental conditions.
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude, including use of hand and power tools, torque tools, and basic mechanical troubleshooting.
- Commitment to safety, including working at heights, following lockout/tagout procedures, and complying with OSHA and site-specific requirements.
- Effective teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with O&M crews and supervisors.
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in welding or mechanical disciplines is preferred.
- Relevant welding certifications (e.g., AWS or equivalent) and prior wind or industrial field experience are beneficial.
Requirements
- Must be able to travel for extended periods of time (100% travel required).
- Must pass a pre-employment physical test and drug screening.
- Flexibility to work overtime when necessary.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to work in unfavorable weather conditions.
- Comfortable working at heights over 300’.
- Authorized to work in the U.S.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English.
- 1 years hands-on welding experience (SMAW/GMAW); able to weld out-of-position and in confined spaces
