Pay$23-$25 per hour

 

Benefits:

New hourly full-time team members working 30 hours or more per week, will be eligible for the Company medical, dental and life insurance plans the first of the month following 60 days of full-time employment.

Full-Time team members are eligible to accrue Paid Time Off (“PTO”) in accordance with the Company policy at a rate of 120 hours per year.

Full-Time team members are eligible for 7 paid holidays annually.

Part-Time team members are eligible to accrue Paid Sick Leave in accordance with state guidelines.

All team members 21 years and older are eligible to participate in the J.F. Shea Co., Inc. 401(k) plan after completion of 30 days of service.

 

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Landscape Foreman is a member of the Golf Course Maintenance Team and assists the Assistant Superintendent with operations and daily management of the landscape staff, creating a safe and exceptional golf experience for employee and guest satisfaction, sales, and financial performance.   This position reports to the Assistant Superintendent.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Communicate the core values and mission of BlueStar Resort & Golf (BSRG) to support the achievement of company goals.
  • Assist the Assistant Superintendent in managing all ornamental areas throughout the community, including flowers, trees, shrubs, ground covers, clubhouse plants, clubhouse lawns, model galleries, etc.
  • Identify the variety of plants throughout the community and can determine plant stress or plant healthiness.
  • Work with the Assistant Superintendent and Superintendent to purchase equipment parts and plant materials; carry out or assign daily, weekly, and monthly tasks; supervise landscape staff, as directed.
  • Mentor and develop staff in landscape operation and job tasks; create a productive and enjoyable work environment, and inspire, motivate, and lead by example.
  • Monitor equipment operation and repair; communicate repairs to the Equipment Manager.
  • Maintain effective communication with the Assistant Superintendent and between all team members in relation to landscape operations, safety, and employee concerns; field questions from the Assistant Superintendent, Superintendent, and management.
  • Work in a safe manner and use all personal protective equipment (safety gear) assigned.
  • Be aware of safety requirements and report unsafe conditions or accidents to supervisor.  
  • Provide insight during hiring, and train landscape staff; recognize and celebrate team member success; provide corrective actions when necessary.
  • Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS: 

  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Two to three years’ experience and/or training in a landscape field.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus.
  • Document a thorough knowledge of landscape maintenance through references and work history.
  • Enjoys the game of golf and understands how attention to quality in the details, like properly set hole locations, tee markers, etc., creates optimal playing conditions.
  • Familiar with low-pressure irrigation systems for landscaping.
  • Familiar with fertilizers and chemical use and application.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret reports, plans, labels, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and regulatory documents.
  • Must be able to calculate figures and amounts such as calibration rates, proportions, percentages, and volume.
  • Must be able to lead by example by taking a proactive position to all issues concerning the landscape staff.  Able to interact positively with the public and teammates.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to supervise the duties of direct reports.

  • Must have planning, problem-solving, decision-making, delegation, time management, and employee development skills.
  • Must have strong analytical, organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, with excellent customer services skills and an ability to respond to the needs and requests of staff members and the public.
  • Must be willing to accept responsibility for tasks, actions, and decisions; ability to make good decisions based on sound judgement.
  • Must be able to consistently achieve high work standards; attention to detail, accuracy and timeliness a must.
  • Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where continuous improvement is expected.
  • Attend educational seminars to stay current with leading technology, as requested.
  • This position requires a flexible schedule to include evenings and weekend.
  • Valid driver’s license may be required to operate some vehicles.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position works in an outdoor environment. 

  • There may be frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts and outdoor weather conditions.
  • Outdoor environments may require variable terrain while carrying equipment and navigating typical golf course obstacles, including, but not limited to, water, plants, and the natural landscape. The employee may be exposed to hazards including, but not limited to, cuts, slipping, tripping, and falls. 
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to Arizona desert wildlife such as snakes, scorpions, spiders, bobcats, javelinas, etc.
  • There may be occasional exposure to precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but can vary depending on the equipment or machines used.
  • Employees are required to wear all assigned personal protective equipment. 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

  • This position may be very active and may require standing and walking for the duration of a shift, sitting and driving, lifting, pushing, digging, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, climbing, using hands to fingers, touching and holding, and reaching with hands and arms; regularly required to speak and hear.
  • The employee must be able to lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds. 
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
