Job Description
Overview
The Laborer & Helper is responsible for performing a variety of tasks to support the proper functioning, cleanliness, and appearance of company facilities and equipment. This entry-level role provides hands-on experience in general maintenance, light electrical work, plumbing, painting, and exterior cleaning.
Key Responsibilities
General Maintenance
- Perform routine and preventive maintenance tasks on building areas, fixtures, furniture, doors, windows, locks, and appliances.
- Respond to maintenance requests and troubleshoot minor issues.
- Maintain an organized inventory of tools, materials, and supplies.
Light Electrical
- Install, replace, or repair basic electrical components such as switches, outlets, lighting fixtures, fans, and smoke detectors.
- Follow electrical safety procedures and applicable codes.
- Test and inspect electrical systems and equipment to ensure proper operation.
Plumbing
- Install, replace, and repair basic plumbing fixtures such as faucets, sinks, toilets, showers, and pipes.
- Clear clogged drains and toilets.
- Detect and repair leaks; follow plumbing codes and safety standards.
Painting
- Prepare and paint interior and exterior surfaces, including walls, ceilings, doors, and trim.
- Apply primer, paint, and sealant.
- Use brushes, rollers, and sprayers to complete finish work.
- Match and mix paint colors as needed.
Exterior Cleaning/Pressure Washing
- Clean and sanitize external surfaces such as sidewalks, driveways, patios, and roofs.
- Operate pressure-washing equipment safely and effectively.
- Remove dirt, mold, algae, and stains while following environmental and safety guidelines.
Additional Responsibilities
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support the needs of the department and business.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- At least one year of experience in maintenance or a related field preferred.
- Basic knowledge of carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and painting.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication and customer-service skills.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy objects and work in various indoor/outdoor conditions.
- Ability to follow instructions, procedures, and safety guidelines.
