Location: Bend, Oregon
Schedule: Full-time (9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. classroom hours, M–F)

Are you a passionate educator who believes in second chances and the power of learning to change lives? Join J Bar J Youth Services’ Learning Center as a Lead Teacher with our J5 Parole and Probation program — a 30-, 60-, and 90-day treatment stabilization program serving male students ages 13–20 under the supervision of the Oregon Youth Authority.
Our classroom is located in the Deschutes County Juvenile Community Justice building and provides a structured, supportive environment where students can catch up on credits, earn their diploma or GED, or explore vocational paths that prepare them for success beyond the program.
What You’ll Do
As the Lead Teacher, you’ll be at the heart of our education team — guiding students, supporting their growth, and helping them reconnect with their potential. You will:
- Serve as the primary instructor in a small, year-round classroom.
- Support students through credit recovery, GED prep, and direct instruction.
- Develop individualized vocational and career pathways for high school graduates.
- Supervise an Educational Assistant and collaborate with treatment and program staff.
- Maintain a safe, positive, and engaging learning environment.
- Track student progress, communicate with partners, and contribute to treatment team meetings.
- Use innovative and adaptive teaching strategies to meet diverse learning needs.
What We’re Looking For
- A current Oregon Teaching License (required).
- BA/BS in Education or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Strong background in Math (General, Algebra I, Geometry) preferred.
- Knowledge of credit recovery systems, GED instruction, and vocational education.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.
