Job description
We are seeking dynamic, effective test prep tutors to join our team, working primarily one-on-one with students, both virtually and in students’ homes across Manhattan.
While the immediate need is individual tutoring, candidates must also be capable of leading small-group or classroom-style instruction (up to 20 students) as our programs expand. This role requires flexibility, instructional confidence, and the ability to scale teaching beyond a single student when needed.

- Strong tutoring instincts. You can quickly diagnose student weaknesses and explain complex concepts clearly in plain language.

Compensation
- Virtual Tutoring: Starts at $70 per hour of live instruction
- In-home Tutoring (Manhattan/Jersey City/Hoboken): Starts at $85 per hour of live instruction
- Classroom Instruction: Starts at $85 per hour of live instruction
- Onboarding/Training: $20 an hour
- Full public transport reimbursement
- W-2 Position (not 1099): Receive a year-end tax refund rather than a tax bill while Ivy Tutor covers a portion of your taxes.
Note: Tutors typically see a 50/50 split between virtual and in-home tutoring. For every hour of live instruction, tutors can expect to spend roughly 15 minutes on lesson prep, review and communication. Classes to begin later in the year.
Responsibilities
- Provide personalized one-on-one tutoring focused on Math test preparation.
- Explain complex concepts clearly and efficiently, adapting explanations to each student’s level.
- Customize curriculum and pacing to meet individual learning needs.
- Deliver engaging, well-structured lessons using strong presentation skills.
- Plan and execute lessons aligned with student goals and progress.
- Track progress and adjust instruction as needed.
- Write a brief recap after each lesson summarizing content, progress, and next steps.
What we require:
- Record of 1450 on SAT or 33 ACT. Equivalents from other exams (e.g., GRE or GMAT) are acceptable
- Comfort teaching SAT & ACT Math in addition to verbal sections
- Ability to handle classroom of high school students
- Bachelor's degree from a top-tier college or a graduate degree from a Research I (also known as R1) university
- Reside in the New York Metropolitan Area
- 50 hours of documented or verifiable tutoring/teaching experience
- 2 year commitment
