Adjunct Faculty - Construction Technology (Electrical Instructor)

Adjunct Faculty are hired each semester on an as-needed basis. Adjunct Faculty are responsible for creating a learning environment that assists students in reaching their goals; and for providing effective instruction and assessment within the framework of common syllabi provided. Major Responsibilities: • Facilitates student learning by delivering assigned classes in accordance with College policy and course objectives. • Makes optimal use of available technology to enhance instructional methods. • Develops/maintains course outlines, syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, tests, and materials. Maintains accurate student records, grades, and other requirements. • Engages with students in meaningful and productive ways that impact student learning and leads to a positive experience with Ivy Tech Community College, shows evidence of developing and implementing active classroom teaching strategies focused on engaging students with their learning (curricular). • Interacts with students and co-workers in a professional and cooperative manner, complies with College policies, campus guidelines and expectations. • Ensures knowledge of and implements emergency and safety procedures for classrooms, labs and all learning environments. This is not to be construed as an exhaustive list. Other duties logically associated with this position may be assigned. All responsibilities will be conducted within the parameters of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), other applicable regulatory requirements, and professional standards. Supervision Received by: Department Chair of Advanced Manufacturing, Engineering and Applied Science Supervision Given: NONE. Minimum Qualifications: A qualified faculty member meets the education component of the School of Technology discipline standard through one of three routes: Possesses an earned associate or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution directly related to the program’s discipline Or, possesses any specialized certifications required for the class being taught as indicated in the Curriculum of Record (COR) Or, four years at a journey or technician level or three years of teaching electrical courses that are specifically linked to the competencies listed in the Curriculum of Record (COR). Must have strong working knowledge of current technologies appropriate to area of instruction and meet faculty credentials as outlined in the ASOM 7.1 for the specific area(s) of instruction. Preferred Qualifications: Candidates should be able to the following: Describe forces that are characteristic of alternating-current systems and the application of Ohm’s law to AC circuits. Examine AC and DC motors, including the main components, circuits, and connections. List principles of human vision and the characteristics of light. Discuss the handling and installation of various types of lamps and lighting fixtures. Discuss bends in conduit up to 6 inches. Examine mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical benders. Explain how to select and size pull boxes, junction boxes, and handholes. Discuss the transportation, storage, and setup of cable reels; methods of rigging; and procedures for complete cable pulls in raceways and cable trays. Examine NEC® installation requirements for cable tray, including cable installations. Describe methods of terminating and splicing conductors, including preparing and taping conductors. Explain the purpose of grounding and bonding electrical systems. Investigate NEC® requirements. Describe fuses and circuit breakers along with their practical applications. Size circuit breakers. Examine basic descriptions of various types of contactors and relays along with their practical applications.
