What are the responsibilities and job description for the School Nurse position at Ivy Hawn Charter School of the Arts?
POSITION GOAL To appraise, protect and promote the health of the students at assigned school(s) within the scope of practice
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Licensure as a practical nurse in accordance with Florida Statute 464 or eligible to practice nursing in accordance with Florida Administrative Code
- Two (2) years pediatric, public health, or school health experience
- High school graduation or equivalent
- Current CPR and first aid certification
- Possess a valid Florida Driver’s License; if a holder of any other valid US state-issued Driver’s License, agree to acquire a Florida Driver’s License within thirty (30) days of employment, except in a case where accommodation is required
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Ability to administer medications safely and accurately
- Ability to exhibit skill in the use of medical equipment and instruments used in providing treatments, such as skilled care nursing procedures
- Ability to teach selected staff and/or students selected procedures
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of student health issues
- Ability to communicate clearly with parents, physicians, other health care workers, faculty and school administrators
- Ability to communicate with students on their cognitive level
- Ability to assist in the provision of health assessments
- Ability to assist in the development and implementation of health plans
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Identify, evaluate and assess health problems and concerns.
2. Coordinate any necessary routine medical interventions needed.
3. Provide nursing care and physician ordered treatments, procedures and mediations to designated students.
4. Maintain effective and productive operation of designated health room and/or treatment sites, including clinic supplies.
5. Assist in the management of all cases of health problem referrals.
6. Function as a health education resource person to school faculty and staff.
7. Provide, maintain, and interpret student health records.
8. Attend student staffings and participate in individual educational plans as appropriate.
9. Maintain appropriate and accurate nursing documentation of all nursing care, treatments, procedures, and medications.
10. Provide health related in-service programs to school personnel when appropriate.
11. Utilize existing health resources to provide appropriate care of students.
12. Attend appropriate seminars, workshops and continuing educational programs related to school health and school nursing practice for professional improvement.
13. Other duties as assigned by the Principal
