Position Overview
We are seeking an Associate Underwriter to support our investment team in evaluating lending opportunities across various industries as well as monitoring current investment performance. Reporting to the senior investment team, this position offers an excellent opportunity for someone with foundational credit experience to develop their skills in private credit markets and contribute to the growth of our portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in analyzing financial statements, business models, and industry trends to assess credit worthiness
- Support the preparation of credit memos and investment committee presentations
- Perform financial modeling and sensitivity analyses to evaluate risk profiles
- Conduct industry research and due diligence on potential borrowers
- Track and monitor current investments, including covenant compliance and financial performance
- Prepare regular portfolio monitoring reports and flag potential issues to the investment team
- Analyze quarterly financial statements from portfolio companies to identify trends and potential risks
- Collaborate with senior investment team members throughout the investment process
- Participate in client meetings and portfolio reviews as needed
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or related field
- 2-5 years of experience in private credit, commercial banking, corporate banking, or related financial services
- Demonstrated understanding of financial statement analysis and credit risk assessment
- Proficiency in Excel and financial modeling
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities
Preferred Skills
- Completion of a formal credit training program at a commercial or investment bank
- Experience in credit analysis, loan underwriting, and risk assessment
- Familiarity with financial statement spreading and credit memo preparation
- Knowledge of covenant structures and compliance monitoring
- Understanding of loan documentation and credit agreement
- Exposure to various industry sectors and their specific credit considerations
- Basic understanding of private credit markets and alternative lending
