PRACTICE DESCRIPTION:

POSITION LOCATION:
One full-time position in the Melbourne, Florida location.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Certified Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting Physicians, and Mid-Level Practitioners, with the evaluation, management, and treatment of patients in an ambulatory care setting. The Certified Medical Assistant will be responsible for maintaining the patient flow, rooming patients, patient intake, preparing patient for exam, upkeep of exam rooms, and performing skills such as vital signs, suture removal, and documenting data in electronic medical record (EMR) system. In addition, the Certified Medical Assistant will follow up with patient phone calls and other administrative tasks as assigned. Ideal candidate must be able to work in a fast paced environment, team setting, and have a friendly and outgoing personality.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Reviews appointment schedules and ensures all patient charts are available for the visit.
- Reviews patient charts and ensures that all ancillary reports and required paperwork are available to the provider at the time of visit.
- Coordinates and maintains organized patient flow.
- Greets patient and escorts them from the waiting room to exam room.
- Performs patient intake process: vital signs, height and weight, reason for visit, past medical history, family history, social history, review of systems, allergies, medications. Information is documented in the EMR system.
- Prepares patient for exam based on reason for visit.
- Enters any required laboratory and/or imaging orders in EMR system.
- Assists with scheduling of patient tests, procedures, and follow-up appointments as needed.
- Tracks results of tests to ensure patient communication of results, plan of treatment with information documented in patient chart.
- Documents patient care information in the EMR system.
- Calls patients and answers calls regarding follow-up, test results, medical instruction, and patient education under the direction of a physician.
- Calls in medication refills under the direction of a physician.
- Documents administration of over-the counter medications and/or other medications in the patient chart in the EMR system.
- Maintains patient confidentiality; complies with HIPAA and compliance guidelines established by the practice
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Current Medical Assistant Certification by AAMA, AMT, or NCCT
- Graduate of an Accredited Medical Assistant Program
- Current CPR Certification
- Knowledge of practice management and EMR systems
- Working knowledge of managed care basics
- Training in minimally invasive surgeries useful
- Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and organizational skills
- Incorporates and demonstrates customer service strategies in dealing with people in order to achieve the organization’s goal of providing comprehensive, outstanding care
