Our portfolio includes the Dab Rite digital IR thermometer (dabrite.com), the Pop-Vac packaging ecosystem (pop-vac.com), and our newest division, Machine Canna, which delivers modular automation systems for high-speed packaging.
Machine Canna, the focus for this role, is a brand-new vertical within IV Thought — and this role offers the opportunity to make an impact on the ground floor while contributing across multiple product lines.
The Role
We’re looking for a hands-on Automation Technical Lead who thrives on variety, problem-solving, and project ownership. This is not a narrow technical seat — you’ll work cross-functionally to design, test, troubleshoot, and support equipment and products that move quickly from concept to production.
One week you may be fine-tuning automation equipment in our Buffalo demo space; the next, managing a project in Asana, training a customer, or collaborating with our overseas manufacturing partners.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead and document product improvements across automation and hardware systems.
- Operate, test, and troubleshoot machines and prototypes in our Buffalo facility.
- Plan and manage projects cross-functionally in Asana, ensuring clear communication between departments.
- Support customer installs, training, and technical service, maintaining strong relationships.
- Serve as a bridge between engineering, design, and operations, helping turn ideas into production-ready solutions.
- Create and update documentation, user guides, and support resources.
- Stay informed on automation, hardware design, and manufacturing technologies that can enhance our work.
Qualifications
- Mandarin language skills are a plus
- 3–7 years of experience in automation, product development, or industrial machinery
- Strong mechanical/electrical troubleshooting and project management skills
- Experience with customer support or field service
- Excellent communication and documentation skills
- Based in or willing to relocate to Buffalo, NY
- Willingness to travel ~25% (U.S. and occasional international)

Pay: $65,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
