Job Description
The Mechanical Engineering Intern learns from a team that keeps NSI on the cutting edge of NDT technology. This position sustains existing product and supports technical innovations to industrial x-ray, automation, and CT products from prototype to commercialization.
SCOPE AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF POSITION:
- Collaborate with engineers to provide robust mechanical design and technical support of NSI products and components throughout product lifecycle.
- Analyze and have input to complex machine designs incorporating motion control systems, robotics, and part handling in accordance with product requirements.
- Design assemblies and components using SolidWorks.
- Prepare detailed drawings and bills of materials for the fabrication and assembly of equipment.
- Provide analysis of drive systems, structural assemblies and sub-components using basic calculation methods and Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
- Interface with manufacturing to support product assembly, testing, troubleshooting and installation.
- Interface with project/product management to ensure projects meet schedule and delivery requirements.
- Develop working knowledge of X-ray and NDT techniques through NSI technical experts and practical application.
- Lead and participate in design reviews for minor designs with cross functional teams and customers.
- Collaborate with a cross functional team of software, controls, and NDT engineers to develop innovative solutions.
Qualifications
- Must be a junior or higher when internship begins.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication.
- Working knowledge of 3D CAD software, SolidWorks.
- Ability to present complex technical information to internal customers.
- Knowledge of all phases of mechanical hardware development & qualification.
- Experience working on cross functional teams (Sales, Supply Chain, Software, Manufacturing, Service, etc.)
- Demonstrated understanding of mechanical principles.
- Knowledge with machine design, automation, and robotics.
- Demonstrated time management and prioritization skills.
- Experience with optical or x-ray imaging systems a plus!

- Passing results on both pre-employment drug and background checks
