Job Summary: This position is responsible for nursing care under the supervision of physicians and clinical services manager.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
- Obtains, verifies, and records health history of patients.
- Transcribe patient appointments.
- Take and record patient's vital signs.
- Prepare exam rooms and sterilize equipment.
- Documents care provided or procedures performed accurately on patient records.
- Performs clinical duties in accordance with CCMA certification and NYS laws and regulations.
- Adheres to infection control/safety guidelines and confidentiality policies.
- Participates in the development of the plan of care with other team members and safely implements that plan.
- Assist with prescription refills, referrals, test results, and patient calls per office and state policies.
- Promotes wellness by providing patient education materials, communicating physician advice/instructions.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education: High school diploma. Graduation from an approved medical assistant program.
Experience: Minimum one year of Medical Assistant experience; clinic experience preferred.
Other Requirements:
- Current CCMA Certification.
- CPR certification for Health Care Providers.
- At least 2 years medical experience if not certified.
Performance Requirements:
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology. Familiarity with health care systems, regulations, policies, and functions. Understanding of documentation standards.
- Knowledge of equipment, supplies, and materials needed for medical treatment. Understanding of basic laboratory procedures including preparation and screening.
- Knowledge of medications and their effects on patients.
- Knowledge of infectious disease management and control and safety standards.
Skills:
- Skill in reading and following written and oral medical orders.
- Skill in initiating appropriate emergency procedures.
- Skill in handling a number of tasks simultaneously.
- Skill in performing blood draws.
Abilities:
- Ability to use manual dexterity to perform medical treatments.
- Ability to administer a variety of treatments as directed.
- Ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and diverse patient populations.
- Ability to apply common sense and critical thinking to carry out instructions and make decisions within scope of authority
Equipment Operated: Phone, computer, medical charts, stethoscope, echocardiography (EKG) machine, ear-washing instruments, blood pressure cuff, speculums, and other nursing items. May involve use of walkers, wheelchairs, pulse oximetry, and oxygen tanks.
Work Environment: Medical exam and treatment rooms and medical offices. Environmental setting (lighting, temperature, air quality, acoustics) controlled.
